So, it’s almost Halloween and you haven’t yet signed up for a spooky trail race? Not to worry! We combed the interwebs and found five excellent Halloween Trail Races that you can still register for (as of October 26th). Plus, we’ve compiled a quick list of costume items that you can (most likely) get in time for the race of your choice.  (Note that these races are in Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Georgia, and Colorado).

Most of these Halloween trail races offer same-day registration (pending availability), but if any of these strike your fancy, we recommend striking while the iron is hot and your running tutus are bouncy. We strongly recommend checking the race’s site closely to confirm space availability.

    1. Harrison Hills 5K/10K
      Saturday, October 28th, 2017
      Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania
      Halloween Trail Races
This race offers a seriously awesome assortment of post-race food, a costume contest, and free kids activities. So you can get your scare on, while the kids feast away.

    2. Trick or Treat Trail Run
      Saturday, October 28th, 2017
      Sioux Falls, South Dakota
      Halloween Trail Races

There is a candy dash. You are never too old for a candy dash. And when you’re in costume, no one will know how old you are. Plus, an awesome 5K and 10K.
    3. Signal Zombie Run 5K Trail and Halloween Festival
      Saturday, October 28th, 2017

      Pike Signal Mountain, Tennessee
      Halloween Trail Races
So, are you looking to get chased by zombies while out on a trail run? Lord knows it would’ve help us get a PR last time around. Zombies roam around and try to steal the flags off your belt, so you better run fast!

    4. Sleepy Hallow Hourly Ultra
      Saturday, October 28th, 2017
      Canton, Georgia

This race is one of a handful of ultra-marathons held on Halloween. There’s no word whether or not there will be a headless horseman riding around while wielding a sword and a flaming pumpkin, but we intend to find out. (This race sold out in previous years, so we advise moving fast).
    5. Halloween Trail Run + Costume Contest/Demo
      Monday, October 30th, 2017
      Golden, Colorado
      Halloween Trail Races
Starting at New Terrain Brewing Company, you’ll be running up a local mountain, and then showin’ off your costume. Bonus points – we assume – if you can integrate your headlamp into your Game of Thrones dragon costume.

Recommended Gear for your Halloween Trail Races

  1. Running tutu. Sure, the tutu is a classic. But hey, if you can wear fifties-style glasses, you can also rock the original running tutu.

2.  Ankle Wings. We’ve recommended these ankle wings before. They’re a little on the long side, so as you fold them, you’ll look like a regular Mercury while you pound the pavement.

3. Running with a Ghost Tee. This “faster than boo” shirt captures the essential spirit of Halloween and racing. It’s also available in men’s.
